Public Sector Project
Welcome to the Public Sector Nursing Project. This is a Cooperative
Project between the Department of Psychosocial and Community
Health at the University of Washington School of Nursing,
Eastern State Hospital and Western State Hospital.
Description of the Public Sector Nursing
Project
The Public Sector Nursing Project is an agreement between
the Department of Psychosocial and Community Health, Eastern
State Hospital and Western State Hospital. The purpose of
the Project is to provide support and educational opportunities
to the nursing staff in the state mental health hospital settings.
The Project encourages career development of hospital staff
by planning workshops which are presented at the hospitals,
and offering graduate level courses for interested nurses.
The Project also provides support for research projects at
each hospital. Currently, the research projects are investigating
factors which affect outcomes for individuals with schizophrenia
as they make the transition from the hospital setting to the
community. An annual conference occurs between staff from
the University of Washington and the two state hospitals which
allows staff to network and plan.
The Public Sector Nursing Project partnership was established
in 1979 with funding from the Washington State Department
of Social and Health Services through Eastern and Western
State Hospitals.
