OrganICS
Organization for Integrative Care Students (OrganICS) is an official UW student organization with the following mission:
- promote a greater awareness of the spectrum of healing modalities and the role nurses can play in the development of integrative health care;
- provide a forum for the discussion of issues such as generating a model for sustainable integrative health care and the legal or political dynamics affecting integrative health care;
- develop programming that will provide opportunities for clinical and didactic learning about multiple healing modalities;
- facilitate and encourage connections with organizations and individuals inside and outside of the SON that share common interests in integrative health care.
Since the 2004-2005 academic year the organization has held quarterly meetings and sponsored networking potlucks, which were attended by BSN, MN, and PhD students as well as representatives from the School of Medicine's integrative health group. OrganICS co-sponsored an open series of classes in Qi-gong, which was followed by weekly informal Qi-gong sessions attended by School of Nursing staff, students and graduate fellows. The organization also sponsored a discussion of the legal implications of integrating CAM therapies into nursing practice. Finally, OrganICS co-sponsored an interdisciplinary presentation of graduate and post-graduate research projects incorporating CAM interventions.
Current and future organizational goals include:
- increased networking with university organizations and community based integrative practitioners;
- further collaboration with the School of Nursing CAM grant to develop clinical and didactic educational opportunities for students, faculty and staff;
- development of a resource library for practice and research in integrative nursing care.
- development of OrganICS website.
