Clinical Informatics and Patient-Centered Technologies (CIPCT)

The Clinical Informatics and Patient-Centered Technologies (CIPCT) Master of Science degree at UW gives nurses and other health professionals a solid background in the design and evaluation of health information systems, clinical informatics, patient-centered technologies, health policy, and effective management of information systems. Nurses and other health professionals are increasingly being asked to serve as experts in these areas with little to no training. In the CIPCT program, you will learn how to:

implement and evaluate information technology (IT) and other cutting-edge tools
use technology to improve quality of patient care, manage chronic illnesses, increase patient safety, enhance communication between patients and providers and increase efficiency of service delivery
assess their organizational needs in terms of patient care and information systems

assist their organization in implementing new initiatives that will improve the quality of care delivery

Qualified applicants include practicing nurses, healthcare clinicians and administrators nation-wide who have a strong desire to advance patient care by understanding, developing and improving IT applications and systems.

CIPCT is designed for students who have minimum 1-year experience in health care delivery systems. Knowledge in informatics is not required, but you will need a basic understanding of computer fundamentals in order to be successful in the courses.

It is important for prospective students to note that CIPCT students are required to attend one on-campus session per year. This session will take place in September over a 3-4 day weekend. This will generally occur the weekend before Orientation.
