The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program prepares you for a tripartite role in advanced
practice nursing, leadership, and practice inquiry.
Advanced Practice nursing qualifies you to apply for national certification in
a selected specialty. Post-master's DNP students who do not seek additional certification focus
on integrating practice inquiry and leadership into practice.
Leadership encompasses organizations/systems, information technology,
policy, professional identity, and skills in leadership and inter-professional collaboration
within a social justice context.
Practice Inquiry focuses on critically appraising and translating evidence into
practice.
DNP graduates provide leadership in multiple areas, including quality improvement and systems
management. They are competent, reflective clinicians within their area of advanced practice
nursing.
The University of Washington Doctor of Nursing Practice program is fully accredited by the
Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
through 2014.

Post-Master's Not Seeking a New Specialty
Post-master's students who are not seeking a new specialty can create an individualized program
of study around your specific goals. Core coursework in Advanced Practice, Leadership, and
Practice Inquiry will provide a framework for your program of study.
Graduate coursework will be assessed during development of program of study for inclusion in the
DNP program of study.
You may apply for this option only if you have not previously been
admitted to any other specialty of the DNP program.
