Nursing Professor Speaks on Effects of Day Care on Early Childhood Development

SEATTLE—Cathryn Booth-LaForce, the Charles and Gerda Spence Endowed Professor in Nursing delivered a lecture to the general public on May 2. 2007, called “Children in Daycare: Science, the Media, and Public Opinion.” Booth-LaForce was selected by UW Provost Phyllis Wise to speak as part of free three-lecture series called Early Childhood Development. The series was presented by the University of Washington and the UW Alumni Association.
In her lecture, Booth-LaForce explained the effects of day care on early childhood development and how long they last. She also discussed the long-debated effects of day care and separated the science-based evidence from media reports and public opinion.
