Call for Volunteers for UW Shortness of Breath Study

April, 2007

SEATTLE—Do you have a lung condition such as emphysema, bronchitis, COPD or severe asthma?

Are you short of breath during your daily activities?

Do you live in the Puget Sound area?

Do you have a computer and access to the Internet?

If you answered yes to these questions, the University of Washington School of Nursing would like you to consider participating in a shortness of breath study program.

The 12-month-long research project is funded by the National Institutes of Health, and is intended to study the effects of three education and support programs for people with chronic lung disease. Two programs will focus on helping sufferers manage their shortness of breath, and a third will focus on general health education. Participants will need to make at least four visits to the UW Medical Center over a period of 12 months, and can earn up to $125 upon completion of the study.

Those interested in learning more can visit the Shortness of Breath Self-Management Web site, or contact study coordinators Lynn Reinke and Cathy Warms by e-mail at uwnurse@managesob.org or phone at 206-616-8993.
