Dr. Yoriko Kozuki Receives Pfizer
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Nursing Research

Yoriko Kozuki, Ph.D., assistant professor at the University of Washington School of Nursing, was recently selected as a 2002 grant recipient in the Pfizer Postdoctoral Fellowship in Nursing Research national competition, Innovations in Health Outcomes.

The award, $65,000 per annum, will enable Kozuki to conduct research in health outcomes for two years beginning in July 2002. Her study, "Nurse Practitioner Intervention for Medication Adherence in Schizophrenia," addresses the problem of drug adherence for patients with schizophrenia who are homeless or living without social supports.

The Pfizer Postdoctoral Fellowship in Nursing Research provides support for outstanding nurse scholars with the ability to pursue an independent and productive academic career in health outcomes. The grant also helps to develop health outcomes research as a discipline and resource at schools of nursing. Information about these and other Pfizer Fellowship and New Faculty grants programs is available from the Pfizer Foundation at www.promisingminds.com.

Kozuki was one of two nurse scholars selected for this grant by an independent board of prominent nurse researchers. Pfizer is a research-based health care company with global operations that strives to discover and develop new, value-added products that improve quality of life for people around the world. Kozuki is the first researcher in the UW School of Nursing to receive a Pfizer Postdoctoral Fellowship.
