New Website Offers Women Latest Research Findings
Scientists have known for some time that just being male or female can have a direct effect on health and well being. Women and men not only have different physiology, they also experience life differently. And the physical, social, cultural and environmental factors that make the sexes different are also factors affecting health and well being throughout the lifespan.
This insight was the foundation for the first federally-funded research center devoted exclusively to women's health, which was established at the University of Washington School of Nursing in 1989.
It is also the impetus behind a new website created as a conduit between research findings that can improve women's health and quality of life, and the women who can directly benefit from having this information.

The Center for Women's Health Research (CWHR) has launched a new, interactive website that uses quizzes, videos and colorful graphics to help women understand and more effectively deal with common health concerns, based on years of research study by UW nurse scientists.
First to be featured on the site is information about the first clinically proven remedy for what nurse researcher Marie-Annette Brown calls "the body blues," or feeling tired and stressed most of the time, and tending to overeat. Brown, a professor of nursing and a clinician specializing in women's health who has conducted years of research on this subject, has developed proven, drug free strategies for coping with this condition. Visitors to the site can take a two-part quiz to determine if they suffer from the "body blues," as well as learn about some of Brown's techniques.
Other upcoming health topics to be discussed on the website include the latest research on dealing with irritable bowel syndrome and fibromyalgia, two conditions that affect women much more commonly than men. These and other topics will be rotated monthly.
The new website can be accessed at http://www.uw-cwhr.org
The UW School of Nursing receives more grant funding for research than any other school of nursing, and has a long-standing reputation as the top-ranked nursing school in the country.
