Yvonne Campbell Ulrich, Nursing Researcher From University of Washington, to Attend Prestigious Research Seminar
New York, June 1, 2000 - Yvonne Campbell Ulrich, RN, PhD, the University of Washington, School of Nursing has been selected to participate as one of 12 Scholars in the third annual Hartford Institute Geriatric Nursing Research Fellows and Scholars Program to be held at NYU's Division of Nursing from June 25-30, 2000.
"We are delighted to foster the research skills of Dr. Ulrich because she is conducting significant research in gerontologic nursing," said Terry Fulmer, RN, PhD, FAAN, co-director of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing and seminar chair.
Dr. Ulrich is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, School of Nursing. Her primary interest has been women's expressions of their strengths. As a clinician and researcher she has focused this interest to studies of women across the lifespan as they recover from violent intimate relationships. Research has included description of recovery, health utilization and help-seeking patterns, and risk factors for being killed in violent intimate relationships. Most recently her research interest has centered on older women who are in violent intimate partner relationships. Her practice has included facilitating support groups for women recovering from abuse.
During the seminar, 15 outstanding gerontologic nurse investigators will have the opportunity to learn from prominent geriatric nursing research facility from the University of Washington, Oregon Health Sciences and the University of California, San Francisco. They will participate in a week-long, intensive, and interactive experience of critical analysis and research skill development in healthcare delivery and issues affecting the elderly.
The purpose of the Seminar is to promote excellence in nursing research that substantially improves care of the elderly. Each year the Fellows and Scholars are chosen from a different sector of the country - 2000 (Western states) 1999 (Midwest) and 1998 (Northeast).
