20th Annual Alzheimer's Disease Public
Forum to be Held May 25

The 20th Annual Alzheimer's Disease Public Forum, a free public presentation designed to share recent research and treatment advances in Alzheimer's Disease, is planned from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 25 in Mount Vernon, Wash.

The event for families and friends of Alzheimer's patients will be presented at the newly completed McIntyre Hall at Skagit Valley College, located at 2501 East College Way, Mount Vernon, Wash., 98273. Parking is free.

Rebecca Logsdon, associate professor of psychosocial and community health at the University of Washington School of Nursing, will introduce the program's two speakers.

Elaine Peskind, M.D., associate director of the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at the Veterans' Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, University of Washington, will speak on advances in the understanding of the disease's biology and treatment.

Susan McCurry, Ph.D., research associate professor in the Department of Psychosocial and Community Health at the UW School of Nursing and researcher in the school's Northwest Research Group on Aging, will speak on how families can assist people with Alzheimer's disease.

The forum is sponsored by the University of Washington Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Friends of Alzheimer's Research, The Western Washington Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, The Alzheimer's Society of Washington, and the UW School of Nursing's de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging.
