Jean and Bob Reid Come to the
Aid of Nursing with $5,000,000 Gift

Bob and Jean Reid of Bellingham, Washington, have made a donation to the School of Nursing which is the largest in its history. The Robert and Jean Reid Endowed Fund will provide scholarship support to both undergraduate and graduate students who would not otherwise be able to afford a nursing education.

The Reids, UW graduates and long-time UW benefactors, singled out the School of Nursing for this major award as a tribute to the excellent nursing care each has experienced.

In choosing to make this gift, Mrs. Reid stated that they were "impressed with the devotion nurses have to their profession." Perhaps more than any other career, nursing is a labor of love, attracting people who tend to be actively involved in serving the less fortunate in their communities. By helping those who dedicate their lives to helping others—both through their work and through generous volunteerism—Jean and Bob Reid have put into motion an ever-widening spire of human betterment.

Jean Reid recently observed some of the teaching strategies that have contributed to the School's number one ranking in the country for the past 14 years. "The specialized training in the School's learning labs is not unlike a real hospital where teams of nurses care for patients," she commented. "Clearly, there is important work taking place here."
