Research Award for CPT Laura L. Feider, AN

It is our pleasure to inform you that CPT Laura L. Feider, AN currently Head Nurse of the PACU at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, has been selected to receive the prestigious Change of Practice Award for her study, "Risk Factors for Nosocomial Pneumonia in the ICU" presented at the 1999 Madigan Army Medical Center Research Day. CPT Feider's study was conducted at Madigan Army Medical Center while she was a graduate nursing student at the University of Washington. CPT Feider will receive an Army Achievement Medal and publication of her research abstract in the U.S. Army Medical Department Journal for this accomplishment.

CPT Feider is the first nurse to receive a MAMC Research Day award. She competed against 66 investigators (predominantly physicians) for the award. Finalists were selected based on the quality and content of their research abstract and presentation. Four awards were given- Discovery, Innovation, Interdisciplinary Research and Change of Practice. As nurses, I'm sure you will agree that the best measure of research value is in its ability to impact on our practice. Nurses at Madigan Army Medical Center are extremely proud of CPT Feider and her study and feel blessed to be allowed to share in this nursing victory.

Information about CPT Feider's distinguished award is being forwarded for consideration for inclusion in the Chief of the ANC Monthly Nursing Newsletter. It will also be published in the Madigan Mountaineer Newspaper.
