A new "information highway" for public health nurses, other health care providers and public agencies serving first-time, low-income mothers and their infants has just been launched by the UW School of Nursing. Called "Stepping Up," the free public website was created by renowned infant mental health specialist Kathryn E. Barnard in cooperation with Rebecca Kang, Lana Conrad and Kathleen Dannenhold, all from the UW School of Nursing. Downloadable interventions and other materials containing the latest scientific information on prenatal care, health education, unstable family situations and newborn care are available as pdf files. Links to additional information and an interactive discussion board are other features of the new site, which was created in cooperation with the First Steps program funded by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, Medical Assistance Administration. For additional information, go to steppingup.washington.edu.
