the American Academy of Nursing in November.

L. Woods led the accreditation process.
An invited editorial by Dean Nancy Fugate Woods on the current nursing
shortage was featured on the front page of the opinion section of the
Seattle Post-Intelligencer in September. Entitled "Crisis in nursing has
its roots in image problem", the essay was accompanied by short features
and photos of seven outstanding graduates of the School of Nursing who
represent some of the many career options available to nurses today.
Professor Emeritus Mildred Disbrow, Ph.D., F.A.A.N., died October 3 after
a period of declining health. Dr. Disbrow helped develop the UW's

of great distinction.Benoliel came to the School in 1970 after earning
national recognition for her research on bereavement. She served as a
professor and department chair before being named the School's first

women. She is the recipient of many research awards and has been on
faculty since 1981. Heitkemper is a Fellow of the American Academy of
Nursing. She is director of the Center for Women's Health Research as well
