Inside the School of Nursing

MESSAGE FROM DEAN SALMON
***********************************************************
We have entered a very challenging and, at the same time, remarkable period in the history of the world, this country and our state. There is no question that the issues facing us as a school loom very large and raise extremely important concerns. And yet, when I look at the contents of this month’s newsletter, I am again reminded that this school is probably the most well-positioned school in this country to not only persevere, but continue to succeed during tough times. I have great confidence in the strength, ingenuity and connectedness of our faculty, staff and students. There is truly much to celebrate.
In the spirit of celebration – and during this time of observance of many holidays and the start of at least our culture’s new year – I also want to convey my very best wishes to each of you for this holiday season. May this time be filled with peace, joy and the reward of knowing that you each make a difference in the lives of people in ways that really do matter. Thank you for all that you do!
--Marla Salmon

ADVANCEMENT UPDATE
***********************************************************************
Dec. 31 is the deadline to participate in the UW’s Faculty-Staff-Retiree Campaign for Students. The campaign, launched in 2005, matches donations by UW employees and retirees up to $10,000. To date, nursing faculty, staff and retirees have endowed 23 funds to support students, making the school one of the top contributors to the campaign of any UW school, college or program. For about $41 per paycheck, you can create an endowed scholarship in your own name or in honor of someone else. Donate a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $10,000 paid over five years and qualify for a 1:1 match up to $10,000 from the UW. For more information, visit the campaign’s Web site:
