What:  Annual Nurses Recognition Banquet

Why:  To celebrate the profession of nursing and to honor our community’s

          nurses, nurse leaders, and volunteers

Who:  Attendees include more than 400 alums of the School, other nurses,

                    health care leaders, community volunteers and philanthropists

When: Thursday, May 7, 2009, 6:00 p.m.

Where: Sheraton Seattle

Distinguished Practice Award:  Leslie Elder, RN, BSN, Seattle Children’s

Distinguished Research Award:  Carol Landis, DNSc, RN, FAAN, UW School

Distinguished Alumni Award:  Cynthia J. Hecker, RN, BSN, Harborview Medical

                                            Center

Proceeds: All proceeds are designated for the School’s Nursing Excellence Fund which provides funding for the School’s greatest needs, including student, faculty, and research support.

These days – more than ever – nurses and nursing leaders are vital to health care and the future of caring in our community, region, and beyond.  Our nation is facing the most profound shortage of nursing professionals in its history. A shortage of nearly half a million nurses, as well as a serious shortage of nurse educators threatens to disrupt healthcare in this country.
